Confident Connections
A Social Confidence & Friendship Skills Group for Neurodivergent Youth
Building Confidence. Strengthening Connections. Creating Success.
Join Liz this fall for Confident Connections, a 6-week skills-based group designed for tweens and teens with ADHD and other neurodivergent presentations. Led by Liz Spicer, CMHC, this group helps participants develop the social, emotional, and executive functioning skills needed to navigate friendships, manage challenges, and build confidence both in and out of the classroom.
As a therapist with experience supporting neurodivergent youth, Liz understands that social success is about more than simply making friends. Many tweens and teens with ADHD struggle with emotional regulation, impulsivity, flexible thinking, self-confidence, and understanding social dynamics. Confident Connections provides a supportive environment where participants can learn practical skills, connect with peers, and gain confidence in who they are.
Why Confident Connections?
For many tweens and teens with ADHD and other neurodivergent presentations, the start of a new school year can bring both excitement and challenges. Difficulties with social communication, emotional regulation, impulsivity, flexible thinking, and navigating peer relationships can impact confidence and make everyday situations feel overwhelming. Confident Connections is designed to help participants build practical skills, strengthen self-awareness, and develop the confidence needed to feel more successful both socially and emotionally.
Research consistently demonstrates that one of the most effective approaches for supporting tweens and teens with ADHD and related challenges is a combination of skills training, social skills development, and caregiver involvement. While insight and understanding are important, lasting growth occurs when young people have opportunities to actively learn, practice, and apply new skills in real-world situations. Confident Connections provides a structured, supportive environment where participants can develop these skills alongside peers while receiving guidance from an experienced clinician.
Throughout the six-week program, participants will learn strategies for building and maintaining friendships, initiating and joining conversations, navigating social challenges, managing strong emotions, and responding more effectively to frustration and disappointment. They will also practice flexible thinking, problem-solving, communication, and self-advocacy skills that can improve success at school, at home, and in relationships.
Because meaningful change is most effective when skills are reinforced outside of group, caregivers will receive weekly resources and practical tools to support continued growth at home. This approach aligns with evidence-based recommendations for supporting adolescents with ADHD and other neurodivergent presentations by creating consistency across environments and increasing opportunities for skill practice and success.
Our goal is not to change who participants are, but to help them better understand themselves, build on their strengths, develop confidence in their abilities, and strengthen the skills needed to navigate friendships, school, and everyday life with greater success.
