Meet Carrie Winn, MA, LCMHC

Specialities: Couples/Marriage Issues, Anxiety, Depression, Mood Disorders, LGBTQ. Ages 18 +.

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I grew up in Maine and moved to NH with my husband in my mid-20s. I think people would describe me as unassuming, go-with-the-flow, protective, and having a good sense of humor. I'm passionate about my family, friends, and my pets and spend every chance I can with any combination of those! In addition to being a therapist, I also teach yoga. I appreciate the quiet life and I'm always trying to learn new things.

Why did you become a therapist?

People go through so much in life, and I think they sometimes underestimate their adaptability and their resilience. I became a therapist to help people remember they are amazing just as they are, perfectly imperfect, and are capable of so much more than they think.

What do you consider your specialties?

I have specific training, experience and interest in working with couples at all phases of their relationships, as well as individuals with anxiety disorders, mood disorders, gender dysphoria in adulthood, and phase of life issues.

What is it like to sit in your office with you? Tell us a bit about your approach to therapy.

I aim to provide a safe, genuine environment where you can, over time, face your fears, and become more comfortable with yourself as you are. From there, we build on your strengths and values so that you can become more self accepting and more confident making the changes that are important to you. I have a lot of experience as a therapist, but I don't see myself as an authority over your life or your choices. I am genuinely curious about what it's like for you to be you. I'll challenge you to be the best version of yourself, but I don't pressure anyone to change before they're ready.

What is your favorite part about being a therapist?

I have a lot of admiration for the courage it takes for people to seek help at their most vulnerable. My favorite part of being a therapist is supporting my clients to be brave enough to face themselves and learn to not to be afraid of what they see. Once you can do that, you can get better. That's why I'm here, to help people get better.
